The Zoo in Phoenix

I recently connected with a mom out in Gilbert who homeschools and uses the KONOS curriculum. We made a plan on meeting at the zoo when I finished my unit on animals. Today was that day. She has 3 boys and used to work at the zoo. She was homeschooled as a kid and really neat to talk to. We talked about getting together again. It's nice to meet someone else who uses KONOS.

One of the first things we saw was a raven eating a mouse. EWW! Cool! We also got to see a condor eating. It was neat to see the animals awake and active.
We walked the whole zoo and enjoyed most of the animals. We even took a ride on the train. We checked out the petting zoo and played at the kid farm.

What a fun day!
PS The reason I called it the zoo in Phoenix instead of the Phoenix zoo came from some old guy who works there. He came to talk to us while we were waiting for the train to leave. He said that the zoo is the largest non-profit zoo in the Unites States. He likes to call it the zoo in Phoenix becasue it isn't Phoenix's zoo--it's not funded by the city. Jonathan commented, "Isn't that the way it should be?" You'll have to talk to him about why. . .
